| As of 9/5/2006 I have successfully completed 52 of the 54 Colorado 14'ers, leaving only Longs and the majestic Capitol. I attempted to climb Longs on September 2nd however conditions that day were unacceptable due to the previous day's storms. After summiting Snowmass my climbing partner Dan Pate and I were reluctant to climb Capitol due deteriorating weather conditions along with the fact that we were both knackered from our climb on Snowmass. We took the opportunity to tour the New Belgium Brewery and visit friends before climbing Venable Peak (13,334 ft) prior to our departure to Texas. Capitol and Longs will have to wait till 2007. As much as I would have liked to finish this year, weather and timing we key to making all of the climbs. I was able to climb 9 of Colorado's hardest 14,000 foot summits and I a really pleased on the season went. I had two of the best climbs I have ever undertaken. The solo assent of Wilson Peak and the Bell Cord including the traverse of the Maroon Bells were rewarding and memorable. Summit or Plummet! Kevin |
